Northeast Side Taildraggers (NeST) is a radio-controlled model aircraft club located on the northeast side of Indianapolis Indiana. We were formerly flying at the school campus of Mt. Vernon Schools in Fortville, but we lost that site in mid-September of 2011. We’ve made great progress at the new site during these last few weeks to make it flyable! The new location is near Klipsch (formerly Verizon Wireless) Music Center, just off exit 10 on I-69. We have a 5 year agreement with the City of Noblesville to fly behind the Fire Station at 15300 Olio Road. While there is still a lot of work to do, the site is flyable and we welcome new members.
Club members are required to be members in good standing in the Academy of Model Aeronautics. Open membership also requires payment of annual dues. First time members also pay a field improvement fee. Dues and fees are discounted for seniors, full-time students and family members of open members. See our by-laws for specific dues details.
Our membership is varying in age and in types of aircraft. We have members in their 20s and in their 80s. There are high performance 1/6th scale nitro airplanes, ¼ scale gas, electric ducted fan jets, WWII Warbirds nitro and electrics, 1/6 scale 4-strokes, electric helicopters, electric micros, foamie combat etc., etc., etc.
We participate in the AMA introductory program, and we offer free flight instruction with experienced instructors. The club maintains a trainer aircraft that can be rented on a per-flight basis for first-time students to fly with an instructor on a "buddy-box". This provides the means for the first-timer to try out the hobby to see if they would like to pursue purchasing their own equipment.
We are eager to expand our membership. Open members bringing 5 or more new open members in any calendar year are granted a dues waiver for the following calendar year.
